Werner places second at 2011 AARC

The 2011 American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) at Road Atlanta is officially in the record books. A weekend of ideal Autumn racing weather provided a competitive stage for racers to pursue the checkered flag flat-out. Phoenix Race Works would like to congratulate Russ Werner for his second place finish behind no other than Glen Cooper, a former SCCA National Champion in an eight car field.

Werner was able to battle his way through the field and hold off six other F1000 racecars in a Phoenix Race Works F1K.10 from the Team Roberts Racing rental program in LaGrange, Georgia. Team Roberts Racing provides the Phoenix racecars as rentals for the weekend, and that’s all Werner needed to finish on the podium. Congrats Russ and Team Roberts Racing for another successful racing weekend!

Official results and photos from the event are coming soon and will be available at the official ARRC website.

F1k no more, Welcome Formula 1000 Grand Prix

To better align the F1k series with its bigger, faster brothers the top brass of the F1k Series has official changed its name over for the 2012 series.

The new formal name for the F1K Series is now Formula 1000 Grand Prix Series. “Grand Prix (French for the words Great Prize) is fitting of the Series,” claimed F1K’s Jon Lewis. “The F1K Series offers a great prize to its Champion. The words Grand Prix also envision the overall atmosphere of the Series, with standing starts and other aspects associated with Grand Prix style events.” Grand Prix relates to the style of racing associated with the F1K Series with more elite open rules and not just a “spec” styles Series.

This switch was made in hopes to attract more drivers, spectators and media to the series to tap into the F1 and Indy Car market, which is the natural progression after achieved success in the Formula 1000 Grand Prix.

For those of you wondering how this will affect the 2012 Grid Girl outfits, don’t worry…those are being changed too.

New F1k championship series announced, PRW expands nationally

A new and exciting professional series, the Formula 1000 Championship Series (F1K) was announced recently to begin in 2012.

Sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing, this true professional Series will participate at major spectator events on the SCCA Pro Racing calendar, as well as other select high-profile venues. The Formula 1000 Championship Series was designed to bring F1000 into professional racing and provide a true cost-effective forum for open-wheel racing in North America.

In 2012 the Formula 1000 Championship Series will feature 10 races over five weekends primarily on the east coast and will grow to a maximum of 14 races with additional events on the west coast in the following years. Budgets for the Series are projected to be under $50,000 for the closest thing to Formula 1 style racing in America today.

There will be a significant Prize Purse for the Formula 1000 Championship. In 2012, the total Year-end Prize Purse will be $100,000 with the Champion receiving $50,000 and the balance divided by the top-5 drivers in championship points, in sizeable disbursements. There will also be a Prize fund for the Championship car constructor. In addition to the Prize Purse, the official tires of the F1k series announced a contingency program today that awards F1k Goodyear tires to the top three overall drivers.

In order to support the Phoenix F1k.10 during this new series, Phoenix Race Works recently joined forces with Team Roberts Racing in Georgia who is now the official East coast distributor of the Phoenix F1k.10 race car. This strategic partnership will allow for increased support to the racers on the East and quicker deliveries of race critical parts and accessories. Phoenix Race Works also plans to expand their reach in the US by adding at least one more official distributor before the 2012 season in order to fulfill the increased demand of the Phoenix F1k.10.
